Expand/collapse icon Counselling

Counselling can help people deal with a range of issues, from day-to-day worries or concerns to more serious, long-term psychological problems. There are many different types of counselling that are available in a range of different formats, each is suitable for a different situation. Counselling can take place face-to-face or over the telephone or, in some cases, by email. It may be a single session,a short-term course of sessions for a few weeks or months, or as a longer term arrangement that may last for months or even years. Counselling can help people come to terms with distressing or traumatic events, such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, or confusion about identity or sexual orientation. It can also be an effective way of dealing with long-term mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. Counselling can be a positive way of addressing any unresolved issues. It can help people to achieve a better understanding of their problems and can also help people to gain a better understanding of other people's points of view.

Expand/collapse icon Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse, also referred to as molestation, is the forcing of undesired sexual acts by one person upon another by the use of threats or coercion. It also refers to sexual activity that is deemed improper or harmful, as between an adult and a minor or with a person of diminished mental capacity. (When the victim is younger than the age of consent, it is referred to as child sexual abuse). Sexual abuse includes rape and sexual assault or sexual acts to which the vulnerable adult has not consented, could not consent or was pressured into consenting. Such abuse may be non-physical, for example, obscene phone calls or indecent exposure, or physical, for example, fondling or intercourse.
